1. Download Ubuntu Jaunty Paket Netbook Remix pada link berikut :http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook, kemudian pilih Tab Netbook Remix, pilih lagi lokasi download yang terdekat dengan lokasi tempat tinggal masing-masing, kemudian klik tombol “Begin Download”.

Gambar berikut semoga memberikan kemudahan pemilihan sumber untuk mendownload ubuntu.

Selamat mencoba.

This page lists some of the netbooks that have been tested with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04, along with any known quirks or issues experienced during testing.

Tier 1

These are netbooks that work reasonably well, with few or any issues, and no major issues

Acer Aspire One

Works well for most things, sound, webcam, ports all reported to work correctly. Minor problems include pulseaudio interfering with sound recording, and media card reader issues unless it is booted with a card in the slot.

Known issues:

  • 271019 – media card reader not hotpluggable on acer aspire one

  • 354620 – Recording from microphone stutters when pulseaudio is running

Asus Eee 1000H

Works very well with sound, webcam, ports all reported to work correctly.  Minor problems include pulseaudio interfering with sound recording.

Known issues:

  • 354620 – Recording from microphone stutters when pulseaudio is running

Asus Eee 1000

Works very well with sound, webcam, ports all reported to work correctly.  Minor problems include pulseaudio interfering with sound recording.

Known issues:

  • 354620 – Recording from microphone stutters when pulseaudio is running

Asus Eee 900a

Works very well.

Asus Eee 901

Everything works well apart from the sleep button, wireless on/off button, special-purpose buttons, and problem with wireless connect.

Known issues:

  • 339891 – wireless rt2860 not connecting to some WPA (Enterprise does not work out-of-box). Working patch is issued at link.

Axioo PICO DJJ

Works very well.

Dell Mini 9

Works very well, Minor problem with pulseaudio interfering with sound recording.

Known issues:

  • 354620 – Recording from microphone stutters when pulseaudio is running

  • 370046 – Cannot set wireless regulatory domain (in order to access wifi access points on channels 12 and 13)

Dell Mini 10v

Works very well; WiFi, webcam, sound, 3D graphics, USB, touchpad worked “Out of the box”.. Minor problem with Microphone not working with pulseaudio, might just be settings.

HP Mini 1033cl

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3832496&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us Everything works “out of the box”; wifi, webcam, hotkeys, 3D Graphics, sound, USB, touchpad, mic, etc.

At least one user has reported that Wi-Fi did not work out of the box.

HP Mini 2140

Works very well; video, bluetooth, sound, touchpad, webcam and even hotkeys work without modification.

On some models (FM839UT at least):

  • internal microphone doesn’t work out of the box. Workaround in filed bug 376795

  • enabling dual-core support for hyperthreading doesn’t work out of the box. Workaround in filed bug 376728

  • detection of lid close doesn’t work. Filed bug 376793

Lenovo S10

Works very well.

Known issues:

  • 344627 – Recording from the internal microphone does not work

Medion Akoya E1210

Works very well. Sound, wireless, ports, suspend, hibernate and hardware function buttons all reported to work correctly.

MSI Wind U100

Works very well.

MSI Wind U90

Works very well.

Compaq Mini 701ES

Compaq Mini 730EO

  • Works extremely well, almost everything works out of the box and as intended even special keys (incl. turning on/off wireless), sound up and down with Fn keys, suspension works flawless and screen dimming etc.
  • Sound out of speakers doesn’t work but solution found at 318942 – no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5) (Compaq Mini 730 is more or less the same as HP Mini 1000 just sold in the EU instead under a new name and minor changes)

Tier 2

These are netbooks that work somewhat, but have problems that may interfere with typical activities at the moment, or many smaller issues.

Asus Eee 1000HE

Wireless with 9.04 NBR has issues. The wireless connection sometimes goes off and on, will connect only after multiple attempts, and grab weak signal strength unless extremely close to the router. Installing backports can fix the connection issue but the signal strength problem remains. This model of EeePC uses different hardware than the Asus Eee 1000.

Known issues:

  • 378156 – UNR Ath9K unstable connection

Asus Eee900

Works reasonably well with the current betas of Jaunty, but some minor issues such as sound recording not working. One fairly annoying bug with the interface being very sluggish. A patch and updated kernel are available that can be applied for now, or wait until after release when it should hopefully become available quickly through the normal update process.

Known issues:

  • 354685 – Volume hotkeys take a long time to react with Rhythmbox

  • 354707 – [Jaunty] Microphone doesn’t work at all on Eee 900

  • 349314 – Slow performance and tiling issues on i915 – look here for kernel hotfix

Asus Eee 701-SD / 702

This netbook basically works, but most of the problems with it center around the fact that it has a very small screen with a default resolution of 800×400 and many apps simply won’t scale down to that size. Known issues:

  • https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/linux/+bug/349314/ – Slow performance and tiling issues on i915 video chipset

  • 354681 – Totem takes more space than available on Eee 701SD

  • 354683 – Rhythmbox takes more space than available on Eee 701SD

  • 354685 – Volume hotkeys take a long time to react with Rhythmbox

  • 354705 – [Jaunty] Microphone doesn’t work at all on Eee 701SD

  • 354710 – Display preferences takes more space than available on a Eee 701SD

  • 232170 – Wireless Hotkeys Do Not Function Out-Of-The-Box. A patch is available, however it looks like it hasn’t made it into the released kernels yet. This can be fixed manually by downloading and installing linux-image-2.6.28-8-generic_2.6.28-8.27~lp232170apw1_i386.deb. Finally you need to ensure the rfkill-input module is loaded. To do this automatically on boot do this:sudo echo rfkill-input >> /etc/modules

  • Desktop performance of netbook-launcher is slow using the default settings. To fix this launch gconf-editor and enable /apps/netbook-launcher/force_low_graphics.

Already fixed bugs:

  • 354687 – Evolution setup assistant takes more space than available on Eee 701SD – fixed in Jaunty

Axioo CMPC

Basically works using Jaunty both on live-flash and installed to harddisk. All hardware works. Hibernate (S2D) works, but suspend (S2R) doesn’t before patch in bug 370778 applied. Many dialogs still too tall for it’s 800×480 display.

  • 370778 – Axioo CMPC display stays blank after resume from suspend

HP Mini 1000

Jaunty UNR works on the HPMini, including wireless. However there is a known bug with audio not working at the moment.

  • 318942 – no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5)

Kohjinsha SH6

Basically works using Jaunty UNR both as a live session and installed. Sound, video, external buttons, wireless is working. Touchscreen is working but the built-in Touchscreen Calibration tool does not work with it. The screen also does not come back after closing the lid or when it turns off for power saving.

After installing the Penmount driver, the sound rocker will stop working. This can be solved by removing the AddAutoDevices section in xorg.conf. No side-effects so far. See this thread for details.

  • 317094 – lshal output for touchscreen

Samsung NC10

Problems with suspend and resume, and with sound recording. Known issues:

  • 340014 – Samsung NC10 fails suspend/Resume tests

  • 362373 – Sound recorder does not work in Samsung NC10 on Jaunty

Toshiba NB100

System keys are working. Most probably moved to Tier-1 after all test done.

[Ross] You may find issues with booting/installing UNR from a USB pen drive. Upgrading the BIOS to version 1.90 resolved this in my case, however be warned that it resets your BIOS settings. This may result in a BSOD in XP if you are dual booting and have changed from AHCI to compatibility mode (changing it back to compatibility fixed it).

Tier 3

These are netbooks that have been tested and are known not to work at the moment.

HP 2133 Mininote

Almost non-usable because of weak VIA Chrome9 videocard support in Ubuntu. Software rendering of UNR interface is painful. Also there are minor problems with non-working mic, unstable falling into suspend and wi-fi not always waking up after resume. Known issues:

  • 358793 – UNR jaunty: Slow interface, high CPU load

  • 365688 – Mic doesn’t work in jaunty for VIA VT1708 High Definition Audio

  • 233920 – Sleep on lid close work only 1 time

  • 359291 – Broadcom wi-fi card doesn’t work after suspend/hibernate

  • 355918 – resolution problem starting X with the wlan network controler activated

[Dirk-Heine Hofstede] I installed it at my HP mini-note 2133, and except that the UNR interface reacts slow I didn’t encounter any problems so far. My wi-fi card just ran normal and made connection again after I woke my mini up(I have done this only once yet). I didn’t use the build in microphone yet, so I can’t say anything about that.

!!! Vector Linux: ISO-file Install Method ISO-file install method allow you to install Vector Linux using the downloaded ISO-file, without having to burn it into a CD-ROM. —————— !!!

Your Situation:

* The computer is running a Windows or a Linux OS

* The computer has plenty of harddisk space

* You cannot (or do not want to) burn a CDROM ————— !! Windows HOST You should have Windows running well on the computer.

Go to Vector Linux FTP site, download the following files:

* the ISO file (e.g: vl-5.0.iso), put it on top level directory (C:\, D:\, etc). * install/loadlin/loadlin.exe to C:\loadlin

* isolinux/initrd.img to C:\loadlin * isolinux/kernel/sata to C:\loadlin Shutdown Windows to DOS mode, then here we go:

cd C:\loadlin
loadlin sata initrd=initrd.img root=/dev/ram rw

————– !! Linux HOST If you have another Linux running well on the computer, this gonna be a piece of cake:

* Download the VL ISO, put it to $HOME/vinstall

* Download install/vinstall/vinstall-iso, to $HOME/vinstall Make sure the host is not running X-Window and services (see the CDROM + Linux host method). Then here is the cake:

## Go to vinstall directory
cd /home/vinstall

## Now install using the ISO
./vinstall-iso vl-5.0.iso

Linux XP

Diarsipkan di bawah: Linux — elsabarto @ 7:22 am

Image
Linux XP Desktop 2008

Introduction:
Linux XP is a strange beast. From what I gather it tries very hard to emulate the look and feel of Microsoft Windows in order to make the transition to Linux easier to the Microsoft-familiar.

That is an admirable goal shared by some rather successful commercial entities like Xandros. Apparently with this release, Linux XP is more like “Linux Vista,” however. I question the logic of emulating an OS that has received such a chilly reception among end users.

I must stress from the beginning that I do not agree with the idea behind this distribution. I believe half-measures like this that spend so much time and effort trying to turn Linux into something it’s not (Windows) are detrimental to end-users.

If someone wants to learn Linux, great, but they should learn proper Linux, not this bastardized Frankenstein monster. There, now I’ve said my peace. On to the rant.

Install:
I should note that at the time I wrote this the English-default version of Linux XP 2008 was not available, only the Russian one. Thus a few of the screenshots will be in Russian. Thankfully the installer itself was a modified version of Redhat’s Anaconda, so if you’ve installed Redhat Enterprise or Fedora you can feel your way through it.

The graphics associated with Linux XP look well done. They borrow a bit from both Vista and OS X on their website and during the installer. It’s obvious that a lot of work has been done to really make Linux look like a Microsoft product.

Upon reboot I was greeted by the login screen, which was similar if not exactly like the one for Vista. Notice the yellow box at the top. Linux XP is only available for free if you agree to a 30 day “trial”, after which you must purchase it.

This is quite similar to a purchased version of Windows XP. I can only guess that the system locks down similarly after 30 days. Of all the things to emulate from XP, Windows Product Activation is perhaps the one thing I wanted the least.

You’ll also notice that like Microsoft Windows, the user is never prompted to create a regular user account. Instead the default is to run the desktop as root user, which is a very, very dangerous thing to do. This risk is multiplied when you factor in a completely new user of Linux. Bad idea.

I was given the choice after logging in to use either an XP look or a Vista look. For a lark I chose the Vista look. I flailed around in the dark a bit and finally found the language switcher (keep in mind at the time this was all in Russian). It gave me a dialog that I assumed said “changes will not appear until you reboot.” I rebooted and found I was correct.

My attempt to install Bookworm using their “Install Windows Applications” icon failed. WINE Doors asked me for some credentials and then decided to give up and sit there for several minutes. I canceled it. Attempts to install with “Run in WINE Windows Emulator” also didn’t work. I didn’t feel like trying it from the command line.

MP3 and WMV/MPG playback worked as expected with Rhythmbox and Totem, respectively.
Software Selection:

The usual suspects were installed by default: Firefox, Pidgin, Totem, OpenOffice.org. Surprisingly, Java and GCC were also present. GIMP and Inkscape as well as XSane were included. The usual GNOME games were installed, with two notable additions: SuperTux and Planet Penguin Racer.
Conclusion:

I was surprised at the potential usability of this distribution. It has a lot of things included that will make an end-user happy. My only caveats would be support, software, price, and root.

I question whether or not a relatively obscure distribution like this would get good support from the community or have reasonably sized software repositories.

I’m also not too keen on the price, but I suppose the same could be said about Xandros. I am very much not impressed with the handling of “run everything as root” which circumvents one of the key security features that Linux has over Windows.

Despite these concerns, Linux XP does manage to provide a relatively stable desktop with lots of features. It just happens to look like Vista now, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.

Update (10 jun 08) – It has been brought to my attention that the “Buy Now” and “Download” links on the Linux XP website are no longer functional. I was also told that they are not answering emails, so it’s possible this is now a dead project. I’ll post another update if that changes.

how to active:
Full source code has also been published so that programmers can view it and to make it easier to crack or find a workaround to bypass Linux WGA.

So what’s the way to crack or bypass Linux Genuine Advantage? It you manage to install the program, and you get locked out from Linux system after your password grace period expires after 30 days, here what you can do to uninstall LGA:

1. Reboot the machine.
2. Boot into single user mode.
3. Remove the entry it created at the bottom of /etc/inittab.
4. Type this command: kill -HUP 1
5. Type this command: rm -f /usr/local/sbin/linux-genuine-advantage
6. Type this command: rm -rf /etc/linux-genuine-advantage/
7. Type this command: rm -f /etc/nologin

CrossOver Games 7.2.0 for Linux

Diarsipkan di bawah: Linux — elsabarto @ 8:39 am

Jeremy White from CodeWeavers announced last night in a press release the immediate availability of CrossOver Games 7.2.0 for the Linux and Macintosh operating systems. The new version comes as a bug fix release for the previous versions, but it also brings some interesting features. One of these new additions will be the formal support for the Spore game. CrossOver Games 7.2.0 is now based on the latest stable version of Wine and it includes improved support for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King and the latest Steam client.

“I am happy to announce that we have now released version 7.2.0 of CrossOver Games, for both the Mac and for Linux. This new version adds formal support for Spore, and has a wide range of improvements for Steam and Steam based games. We’ve also incorporated a pretty far ranging set of improvements that should improve game play across a wide range of games. [...] Also I want to remind folks that with CrossOver Games, we do try to make bleeding edge releases available.” - said Jeremy White in the press release.

Highlights of CrossOver Games 7.2.0:

· Updated Wine to latest version;
· Compiz and Steam were fixed;

Adobe AIR 1.5.1 for Linux

Adobe AIR

Robert Christenses announced yesterday, on the official Adobe AIR Team Blog, the release of version 1.5.1 for their Adobe AIR runtime environment. Besides fixing several bugs, this new version introduces two new APIs. The first, called Capabilities.cpuArchitecture, returns, as a string, the processor architecture of the machine it is installed on. The other is InvokeEvent.reason and will benefit those who build AIR applications that start automatically. Basically, this new API can indicate if an application was manually or automatically launched at login.

Before this version, Adobe AIR couldn’t distinguish between these two cases, leading to some strange behaviors. Oliver Goldman, a member of the Adobe AIR Engineering Team, explains the importance of this new feature: ”[...] In the login case, applications often want to avoid opening new windows. In all other cases, they generally want to make sure they do open a new window. Starting with AIR 1.5.1, the InvokeEvent class contains a new property, “reason”, that distinguishes between these two cases. It has two possible values: “standard” and “login”. These are, I hope, self-explanatory.”

Some of the bugfixes that apply to the Linux version are:

· A crash that occurred if ATOK was set as the current IME and the keyboard focus was moved onto a password field was fixed;
· A drag and drop failure in the Orbitzoom application was fixed;
· A bug that was preventing the uploading of large images from the clipboard to ImageSharkUploader app was resolved;
· A crash that occurred in curl when trying to load PDFs from secure servers was fixed;
· The runtime uninstaller that didn’t show icons for application names or IDs written with upper case characters was fixed;
· A bug that was destroying the context menu right after creating a windowed SWF file with Flash Player 10 was fixed;
· The images are now displayed in the client area for the QuickLoader app;
· The “Always Allow” button now works in SSL certificate dialogs;
· Globalsign certificates are now available in the code-signing certificate store;
· Images and videos can now load in the Fanbase app;
· The AIR runtime/application can now be installed through badge in Fedora 10 and openSUSE 10.3.

moonOS LXDE Edition 2.0, Powerful features on top of a light desktop environment.

Diarsipkan di bawah: Linux — elsabarto @ 8:25 am
The moonOS team announced yesterday the immediate availability of their moonOS LXDE Edition 2.0 (Kachana). Based on moonOS Main Edition 2, this release brings a Linux kernel 2.6.27-11, LXDE 0.3.2.1 and Xorg 7.4. Some of the tools that are included in this version are: moonDomain, moonGrub, moonMetacity and moonUpgrader.

Similar to mintNanny from Linux Mint, the moonDomain feature helps users block domain names by adding an entry to the /etc/hosts file and defining it as 0.0.0.0, preventing all access to that domain, no matter who or what tries to access it.

moonGrub, another newly implemented app, provides an easy way to modify, create, install or uninstall Grub GFXBoot themes. moonMetacity handles Metacity themes, allowing users to change and preview them. The moonUpgrader facilitates upgrading the system to newer versions, as they are released.

Highlights of moonOS LXDE Edition 2.0:

· Linux kernel 2.6.27-11
· Xorg 7.4
· Gnu Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) 2.6
· Network Manager 0.7 – 3G, PPP and PPPOE connection management, supports multiple active devices at the same time and provides system-wide settings, allowing connections even before login
· Latest Ubiquity installer
· Totem 2.24.3
· Abiword 2.6.4 and Gnumeric 1.8.3 instead of OpenOffice.org
· Metacity replaces Openbox
· Claws Mail is the default email client
· Leafpad, a simple text editor
· Catfish, a file search tool
· Mozilla Firefox 3.0.6
· Pidgin 2.5.2 for Instant Messaging

moonOS 2 is also available in a full-featured “Main Edition” that uses the latest Enlightenment desktop environment. Stay tuned to read our initial thoughts on it in the next week’s “First Look.”
